VDM Finally Reveals Why His Friendship With Davido Ended — ‘You Betrayed Me’


Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has finally opened up about what caused his friendship with Afrobeats superstar Davido to collapse.


In a video released on Thursday, November 5, VDM explained that the disagreement was not simply about the recent social media drama involving Davido and Zlatan. According to him, the problems between himself and Davido can be traced back to the campaign for justice for late singer Mohbad.


VDM said the same issue that initially brought him closer to Davido eventually became the reason their relationship fell apart.


However, his latest allegations have already been disputed by Davido's camp, making the controversy one of the biggest entertainment stories currently generating reactions online.


How VDM Said He Became Friends With Davido


In his explanation video, VDM went back to the beginning of his relationship with Davido.


He recalled that Davido followed him on social media in 2024, describing the moment as significant because of Davido's status as an internationally recognised Nigerian musician.


According to VDM, their relationship gradually moved beyond social media and they became friendly.


He said he regularly supported Davido by promoting his songs and releases whenever the singer had new music.


VDM also claimed that most of their private conversations involved Davido asking him for favours, rather than him asking Davido for assistance.


At that point, according to VDM's account, there was no serious problem between them.


But things allegedly changed because of the controversy surrounding Mohbad.


Mohbad Case Became the Turning Point


VDM said his involvement in the campaign for justice for Mohbad began after the singer's death in September 2023.


Mohbad's death generated widespread public anger and questions about what happened to the former Marlian Records artist.


VDM became one of the prominent voices demanding answers and questioning people connected to the controversy.


According to his latest explanation, his investigation and criticism eventually brought him into conflict with several people in the entertainment industry.


He claimed that he later came across a WhatsApp group conversation in 2025 which, according to him, contained discussions involving several entertainment personalities and members of Davido's circle.


It was this alleged discovery that VDM said changed the way he viewed his relationship with Davido.


VDM's Allegation About the WhatsApp Group


The most serious part of VDM's explanation concerned the alleged WhatsApp group.


VDM claimed that some people connected to Davido's DMW circle were part of a WhatsApp group where discussions about having him arrested had allegedly taken place.


He linked the alleged discussions to his activities during the Justice for Mohbad campaign.


VDM said he was shocked because he had been friendly with some of the same people he believed were connected to the alleged discussions.


He questioned how people who could laugh and interact with him normally could allegedly be involved in conversations about his arrest.


According to reports of his video, VDM said he had already spent months in Kuje Correctional Centre and therefore took the alleged conversation seriously.


It is important to stress that these are VDM's allegations. The alleged WhatsApp discussions and Davido's personal knowledge or involvement have not been independently established.


Why VDM Called It Betrayal


VDM said the biggest problem was not simply that people allegedly discussed his arrest.


For him, the bigger issue was what happened after he discovered the alleged conversation.


He said he wanted to speak directly with Davido and find out what the singer knew about the situation.


According to VDM, he repeatedly called Davido, but the singer did not answer.


VDM said he eventually became more disappointed when a post from blogger Cutie Juls discussed his attempts to contact Davido.


He claimed that the situation was subsequently portrayed as though he wanted to record Davido's voice and use the conversation to blackmail him.


VDM rejected that explanation.


He said he was simply trying to get answers from someone he considered a friend.


“That was cold; that was betrayal,” VDM said while explaining how the situation affected him.


‘You Dey Call Me Bro’


According to VDM, what made the situation even more painful was that he believed Davido continued treating him like a friend.


He questioned why Davido would allegedly continue calling him “bro” and interacting with him normally if people close to the singer had been involved in discussions about his arrest.


VDM said he eventually sent Davido a message expressing his disappointment.


He explained that from that point, he no longer wanted to maintain the same relationship.


In his account, the friendship effectively ended.


For VDM, the issue was therefore not simply another celebrity disagreement. He presented it as a question of trust and loyalty.


Israel DMW Defends Davido


The allegations have already received a response from Israel DMW, one of Davido's associates.


Israel defended Davido and said the singer had no involvement in any alleged plan to have VDM arrested.


He claimed that Davido did not instruct or approve the actions of people who may have been part of the WhatsApp group.


Israel also rejected suggestions that Davido was involved in the wider dispute surrounding Naira Marley and the Mohbad controversy.


This means that the controversy currently has two very different accounts.


VDM says the alleged WhatsApp conversations raised serious questions about people around Davido and left him feeling betrayed.


Davido's camp, meanwhile, says the singer had nothing to do with any alleged plan against VDM.


Why the Old Mohbad Controversy Is Trending Again


The latest development has brought the Mohbad controversy back into the centre of Nigerian social media discussions.


What started as a campaign demanding answers over Mohbad's death has now become connected to a separate dispute involving some of Nigeria's biggest entertainment personalities.


VDM's explanation also comes at a time when his relationship with Davido and Zlatan has become increasingly tense.


The dispute has generated arguments among fans, with some supporting VDM's version and others defending Davido.


Social media users are now debating whether Davido should respond directly to VDM's allegations or allow his associates to speak on his behalf.


What Happens Next?


The biggest question now is whether Davido himself will respond to VDM's latest explanation.


VDM has presented his version of events and explained why he believes he was betrayed.


However, the most serious parts of his story remain allegations and should not be treated as proven facts without independent evidence.


The alleged WhatsApp messages, the people involved and whether Davido personally knew about any alleged plan remain key questions.


For now, the controversy has once again placed VDM, Davido, Mohbad and the Justice for Mohbad campaign at the centre of Nigerian social media discussions.


What is clear is that VDM no longer sees his relationship with Davido the way he once did.


And judging from his latest explanation, the disagreement appears to be much deeper than the current online exchanges between the two sides.
