Wike Reaffirms Support for Tinubu, Says Rivers Will Back President in 2027
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, maintaining that his political camp in Rivers State is committed to backing the president’s re-election bid.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has consistently positioned himself as a key political force behind Tinubu’s campaign efforts in the state.
In recent remarks, the FCT minister said the political coalition he is associated with had taken a decision to support Tinubu for the presidency, while no candidate had yet been endorsed for the Rivers State governorship election.
The Rainbow Coalition, which comprises members of several political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP) and Action Alliance (AA), is expected to determine its preferred candidate for the Rivers governorship race through consultation and consensus.
Wike has also urged political aspirants in Rivers State to work with the coalition, describing it as a significant political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
His position further highlights the growing political importance of Rivers State in the preparations for the 2027 presidential election, particularly as major political actors intensify efforts to secure support across the South-South region.
Wike's continued backing of Tinubu is expected to remain a major factor in the political calculations surrounding Rivers State as the 2027 election approaches.
Verification: The core claim that Wike and his political coalition are backing President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election is supported by reports from Channels Television, TheCable, The Punch and The Guardian. The stronger claim that Tinubu is the only presidential candidate capable of winning Rivers State could not be independently confirmed in that exact form.
