U.S. Offers $25 Million Reward for Alleged CJNG Leader Juan Carlos Valencia González

The United States Department of State has announced a $25 million reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Juan Carlos Valencia González, also known as "Pelón," in a major effort to intensify the fight against transnational organized crime.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, is part of a broader U.S. crackdown on the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico's most powerful and violent criminal organizations. U.S. authorities allege the cartel is responsible for trafficking large quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and other illegal drugs into the United States.

According to U.S. officials, Valencia González has emerged as a prominent figure within the CJNG's leadership following the reported death of longtime cartel leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as "El Mencho." Federal authorities have linked him to multiple drug trafficking offenses and say he is among the highest-priority fugitives connected to the cartel.

Alongside the reward announcement, U.S. authorities unveiled additional enforcement measures, including criminal indictments against several alleged senior CJNG members, financial sanctions targeting individuals and businesses accused of supporting the cartel, and visa restrictions aimed at disrupting its international operations.

Officials said the coordinated actions are designed to weaken the cartel's leadership structure, cut off its financial resources, and reduce the flow of illicit drugs into the United States. The State Department encouraged anyone with credible information about Valencia González's whereabouts to contact law enforcement through the appropriate official channels.

The CJNG has expanded its influence across several regions of Mexico and is considered one of the country's most powerful criminal organizations. It has been accused by authorities of involvement in drug trafficking, money laundering, extortion, arms trafficking, and other forms of organized crime.

The latest U.S. action underscores Washington's continued commitment to working with international partners to combat drug cartels and address the growing threat posed by transnational criminal networks.

As investigations continue, U.S. officials say additional enforcement actions remain possible as part of their ongoing campaign against cartel-related crime.
