Troops Foil Terrorist Attack on Zamfara Military Base, Rescue Nine Kidnap Victims

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted terrorist attack on a military base in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and rescued nine civilians who were abducted during the incident.

The Nigerian Army said the attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, when heavily armed terrorists launched an assault on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) under the cover of darkness. Alert troops immediately engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing them to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.

According to the Army, reinforcements were swiftly deployed to pursue the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted several residents from the surrounding community while escaping. The follow-up operation led to the successful rescue of nine kidnapped civilians.

The military, however, confirmed that one Nigerian Army officer and one police officer lost their lives during the confrontation. Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were evacuated for medical treatment. Authorities said both injured personnel are responding well to treatment and remain in stable condition.

Security forces have since secured the area and intensified clearance operations to track down the fleeing terrorists, recover any remaining victims, and prevent further attacks in the community.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations across Zamfara State and the North-West, assuring residents that efforts to dismantle criminal groups and enhance public safety will continue.
