Mark Zuckerberg’s Yacht Under Scrutiny After Cruise Ship Rescues Stranded Boat in Alaska
Mark Zuckerberg’s superyacht has come under scrutiny after a cruise ship diverted from its route to assist a small boat that had run out of fuel in Southeast Alaska.
The incident happened on August 3, 2026, when a 21-foot skiff reportedly ran out of fuel while travelling between Petersburg and Juneau. The crew contacted the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance, prompting authorities to seek help from vessels in the area.
Zuckerberg’s 387-foot yacht, Launchpad, was reportedly nearby at the time. However, it was the smaller cruise ship Wilderness Legacy that ultimately responded, towing the stranded boat to Farragut Bay and providing fuel.
The incident attracted attention after a passenger aboard the cruise ship said the captain informed passengers that Zuckerberg’s yacht was closer but had not responded to the radio call. The account sparked criticism online, with some questioning why such a large vessel did not assist the smaller boat.
However, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg later offered a different explanation.
According to the spokesperson, Zuckerberg and his family were not aboard the yacht at the time. The crew reportedly did not initially hear the Coast Guard’s request because they were monitoring a different radio channel. By the time they became aware of the situation, assistance from the Wilderness Legacy was already underway.
The Coast Guard also determined that the skiff was not in distress and classified the situation as a request for maritime assistance. Experts noted that maritime law generally requires vessels to respond to genuine distress situations, but the circumstances did not meet that threshold in this case.
The stranded boat was eventually brought to safety without reported injuries.
The episode has nevertheless renewed public interest in Zuckerberg’s luxury yacht, which is estimated to be worth around $300 million and has become a frequent subject of public attention because of its size and extravagant features.Meta description: Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht Launchpad has come under scrutiny after a cruise ship rescued a small boat that ran out of fuel in Southeast Alaska.
