Former Adult Film Actress Sworn In as Colombian Senator

Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, popularly known by her former stage name Amaranta Hank, has officially been sworn in as a senator in Colombia following her victory in the country's March parliamentary elections.

Ortiz, who previously worked as a journalist before entering the adult entertainment industry, says her past should not define her ability to serve in public office. Instead, she believes her life experiences have given her a deeper understanding of inequality, discrimination, and the need for stronger legal protections for vulnerable workers.

As a member of the Historic Pact coalition representing the Norte de Santander region, she has pledged to advocate for the rights and welfare of people working in the adult entertainment industry. Her proposals include greater legal recognition, social security protections, and measures aimed at reducing exploitation and stigma faced by workers in the sector. She has also expressed support for improved mental health services and stronger efforts to prevent sexual abuse.

Her election has generated mixed reactions across Colombia and internationally. While supporters see her victory as a sign that democracy allows people from diverse backgrounds to seek public office, critics argue that her past career raises questions about public leadership. Regardless of the differing opinions, her swearing-in marks a notable moment in Colombian politics and has sparked global conversations about second chances, representation, and the qualifications for public office.

What do you think? Should a person's past career affect their chances of holding public office, or should voters judge candidates based on their policies and ability to lead? Share your thoughts in the comments.
